People often ask, "Where did the name 'Juspy' come from?" Well, it’s a bit of a Juspy journey! If I told you the very first name we had was “Mommy Formula,” you’d probably laugh but its true! It was spelled M-O-M-M-E because it was all about putting the "me" back in mommy. Back then, the idea was for it to be a postnatal recovery drink that gave moms a little extra nourishment and care.
But the product started evolving, and so did the name. We wanted something that packed a punch, so we tried "Kapow” spelled C-A-P-O-W. It was a play on cacao, one of the main ingredients, and we thought it would give people that superhero kick. But soon enough, it started feeling a bit too playful, almost like it belonged in a comic book. So, we moved on.
At the time, I didn’t have a final product yet, but we knew where we were headed. It was December 2016, and I was pregnant on my 2nd. That’s when I brought in my brother and cousin (both in the product & marketing space) and we got together for a brainstorming session. The more the merrier for a bit of ‘creatstorming’.
The first step involved me pitching them all my ideas, talking about what Juspy would stand for, the values behind it, and why it was needed.
We thought we’d struck gold when we focused on the word "Enough," spelled E-N-U-F. It came from that feeling that some days, just getting through the day is enough. After having a baby, I was completely wiped out, and even the smallest tasks, like getting dressed, felt like major accomplishments. "Enough" really resonated with me because some days, just surviving the moment is all you need to do.
But there was a snag. As it turns out, the trademark for "ENUF" was already taken—by a beer company of all things! And as someone with a branding background, I knew how critical it was to secure the right trademark. I wasn’t just looking for a name that sounded good, I had the ultimate goal of finding a five-letter .com domain that we could own. So, we had to go back to the drawing board or the post-its in this case.
By the end of the day, we were burnt out from thinking, trying to force the outcome and left a little dejected when it didn't come. So we set up a whatsapp group to let things percolate.
A week later, my cousin texted me out of the blue with another suggestion: “What about ‘Just Be’?”Good but as it stood a little corny. I couldn’t help thinking it sounded more like a beauty salon or a holistic wellness center.
That’s when my brother came back with, “Go more phonetical?” And just like that, something clicked. “Juspy. LOVE IT!
But the story doesn’t end there. Surprisingly, when we went to secure the domain, we found that juspy.com had already been taken. Bought up by a woman in New Jersey years before! IT’s funny when you think you are being so original, someone got there first.
So I reached out to her, ready to negotiate, and when I told her about the meaning behind Juspy and my postnatal journey, she was so incredibly helpful. She was a mom of five herself and could totally empathise with where I was at trying to start this business. In the end, she sold me the domain for just €200. It felt like a small miracle!
So, that’s the story of Juspy—a name that took its time to find us but couldn’t be more fitting. A weird and wonderful, made up name that is often mispronounced but adds to the fun! From the early days of Mommy Formula to Capow to Juspy, it’s been a name that reflects everything we stand for: living in the moment, unapologetically.
